Dr. Jamie's Story

Growing up, I recall feeling overweight, angry, depressed and suicidal most of my teenage years. Struggling with feelings of rejection, low self-esteem, and loneliness, I couldn’t see a hope for the future. One day, as a college student, when contemplating suicide, I turned my life over to Jesus Christ- I always believed that there was a God. I did not however believe that God believed in me. I didn't know if He would want me but, I said "God if you are real and you can do something with my life, show up." The short story is He did show up. It was a process. I did not magically feel different but I had just a half of ounce of hope and what I can tell you is this: little by little I began changing. On the inside, my angry and hardened heart, the empty feelings and hopelessness all began to change for the better. On the outside, change was happening too. I went from failing out of college to being on the academic honor list and I began to lose my desire for the party life I once thought was so enjoyable. In the years to come, I would quit smoking and even lose almost 100 lbs. The young girl who was told she would likely not be able to graduate high school or hold down a full time job because of my emotional problems as a teen, has since graduated with four post high school academic degrees. I could not have imagined the future God had in store for me. I gave God a pile of ashes I collected throughout the years of my life, He gave me a crown of beauty and hope. Does that mean that life is easy and pain-free? No, indeed I can tell you that is not true. But, I can tell you that I have learned and am continuing to learn "how to do this thing called LIFE" -real life- in a way that I never would have dreamed. As a result, I passionately desire for all to know and experience, as I did, the hope and the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that can change a life from the inside out.
